When I read your sentence "It gave me a more profound understanding as to why our relationship had little chance of survival unless I had been willing to deny my core value system.", it really hit home. I have two failed marriages behind me and am now in a wonderful marriage. My husband and I have the same morals and core values, which I didn't have in common with the first two. It is so important, and I didn't relize it until we were married. I've struggled with explaining that to my children and the way you said it was right on.
